AUDITIONS

Initial Audition

Once we have received your online application form you will be contacted with information and guidance regarding submission of a video audition. You will be required to present a recording of two contrasting songs that demonstrate your singing ability, range and performance versatility.

Recall Audition

If you are successful via the initial video submission you will be invited to attend an in-person audition, in London. You will be required to present your two contrasting songs as submitted in the initial video (some candidates may also be asked to bring an additional or replacement song). A pianist will be provided. You will also be required to present an acting piece from a contemporary play (post 1900). In the afternoon, there will be a group dance audition, and in some cases a vocal workshop.

After the audition day, you may be contacted to arrange a one-to-one interview with the Principal, via Zoom or Skype.

OVERSEAS APPLICATIONS

Student Visa

As a purely vocational training outside of the HE framework, LSMT are unable to sponsor a student visa to study in the UK. Please do not apply for the course if you would require a student visa to attend. Further information is available at www.gov.uk/student-visa.

If you are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein you now need to have pre-settled or settled status to attend the course.

Graduate Visa

A Graduate visa gives you permission to stay in the UK for 2 years after successfully completing an approved course (3 years for PHD or doctoral qualification).

If you are currently studying a degree or other eligible course you may wish to apply for this visa to stay in the UK and attend LSMT.

You can apply for a Graduate visa if all of the following are true:

- You are in the UK.

- Your current visa is a Student visa or Tier 4 (General) student visa.

- You studied a UK bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree or other eligible course for a minimum period of time with your Student visa or Tier 4 (General) student visa.

Please note that you must apply for this visa before your current visa expires, but after your current education provider has told you that you have completed your course.

Tier 5 YMS Visa

LSMT have had many graduates from Australia and New Zealand, and we welcome applicants from any of the listed countries on a Tier 5 YMS visa.

You can apply for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa if you’re aged 18 to 30 and you’re from:

  • Australia

  • Canada

  • Japan

  • Monaco

  • New Zealand

  • Hong Kong

  • Republic of Korea

  • Taiwan

Please be aware that upon graduation you will be able to live and work in the UK up until the expiration of your Tier 5 visa but you are very unlikely to get an extension.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Attendance and Punctuality

All students are required to be available for the entire course. Absence from classes, other than for reasons of illness, is strictly by prior arrangement with the Principal and by completion of an authorised absence form, countersigned by two members of staff. LSMT reserves the right to dismiss any student from the course who has an unsatisfactory attendance record.

Behaviour

Students are expected to behave in a professional manner, whilst on the course. Any behaviour which brings LSMT into disrepute may result in the relevant student being dismissed from the course.

Professional Development

LSMT reserves the right to remove a student from the course should it appear that the required effort and progress is not being made. We are committed to supporting our students throughout their training, and encouraging them to achieve their goals. A decision to remove a student due to non-progression is a very rare occurrence and will only be actioned as a last resort, having given the student every opportunity to improve.

Deposit

LSMT takes a deposit upon the acceptance of an offer to secure an individual’s place on the course. The deposit is non-refundable except under exceptional circumstances, such as for verified medical reasons or unexpected loss of funding. Under these circumstances, if the withdrawal is at least one month prior to the course commencement and we are able to fill the place from our reserve list, the deposit will be refunded.

Refunds

Any student having to leave LSMT during training for verified health reasons, or due to dismissal, will be entitled to a refund of course fees, less the deposit and a proportion of fees equivalent to the training received.

Work Permission

It is strictly forbidden to partake in any professional theatrical production during training without the written consent of the Principal. Students should not attend auditions or seek to find employment during their training. During the final term, the Principal may allow certain students to accept employment or attend certain auditions.

Equal Opportunities

LSMT welcomes applications from all members of the community, between the ages of 18 and 35, who meet the audition and performance criteria, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or disability.

Course Equipment

Students will be asked to provide certain items for the course (such as suitable dance clothing). We endeavour to keep these requirements to a minimum.

Health, Safety and Student Welfare

LSMT has a health and safety policy. In addition, each student is responsible for his or her own physical well-being, with regard to diet and safe exercise. Advice will be given at the commencement of training.

Members of our faculty have attended the following training programmes:

Adult Mental Health First Aid Course  - Certified through MH England

Equality and Diversity Training Course - AC Education

Resilience and Wellbeing Training - Interact

Mindfulness for Peak Performance - Future Learn - Monash University

Insurance

LSMT carries full public and employer's liability insurance, at a level commensurate with activities undertaken.

Personal Possessions

Whilst every care is taken to ensure a secure training environment, LSMT accepts no responsibility for loss of, or damage to personal possessions. Every student is provided with a locker for the storage of their personal possessions, but high value items should not be brought to the school.

Age Restrictions

Students must be over 18 and under 35 before the commencement of the course.

Student Equity Status

LSMT encourages all students to join the Equity Student Membership scheme, which, apart from many additional benefits, allows the student to reserve the name they wish to use in their career, if that name has not already been registered.

Diploma

Graduating students receive the LSMT vocational diploma in Musical Theatre, as an industry verification that they have completed our training.

Charitable Status

London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT) is a registered charity (Number 1166152). All income received by the school is applied to the delivery of the objects of the charity, primarily 'the advancement of education and training in musical theatre performance' (articles of association). Charitable status offers the reassurance to our students that the school is non-profit distributing, is established for the public benefit and is overseen by appropriate trustee governance.

Force Majeure

In the event of a circumstance deemed Force Majeure, the organisation is not obliged to deliver the services as outlined on this website. However, it is understood by the organisation and the enrolled student that although there is no legal obligation, every endeavour will be made by the organisation to deliver a training equating to that usually delivered.

London School of Musical Theatre and LSMT are both registered Trade Marks, used under licence, exclusively by Theatrical Educational Services Limited.
