Musical Theatre Courses
Musical Theatre Training
Post Graduate Musical Theatre
Entry to the course is by audition. Please complete the online application form, and you will be contacted to arrange an initial audition appointment. You must have a suitable image file of your face to upload (no bigger than 3mb in size) and use a computer or Tablet/iPad as the form is not mobile phone compatible.
To complete your online application you will be required to pay the audition fee of £40 via PayPal Checkout (no PayPal account required).
Overseas applicants must read the guidance below before considering applying.
Please click on the ONLINE APPLICATION button to begin.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 1st May 2020.
We are currently continuing to accept applications during the Covid-19 outbreak, but are postponing the audition process to such time as it is deemed permissible to travel safely in London
You will be required to sing two contrasting musical theatre songs (a ballad and an up-tempo). A pianist will be provided.
If you are successful at the initial audition you will be invited to a recall audition. You will once again be required to sing two contrasting songs – some candidates may be given specific material to return with. You will also be required to present an acting piece from a contemporary play (post 1900). In the afternoon there will be a group dance audition, and in some cases a vocal workshop.
Do not apply using the online application as the form and audition payment will be returned.
Please be aware that the course is entirely vocational and is primarily connected to the UK industry. The expectation from our visiting agents in the final term is that all potential clients will be legally entitled to work in the UK. If you are not legally entitled to work in the UK, you are unlikely to secure representation at the end of the training.
If you are an EU national, you are currently able to study at LSMT without visa restriction and to work in the UK upon graduation. After June 2021 you will be required to have pre-settled or settled status to remain in the UK. If you apply for the course commencing September 2020 and are successful in your application, we would recommend that you apply for pre-settled status as soon as you commence your training, so that you can have the option of remaining in the UK after the course. If you wish to apply please contact and you will be sent the information regarding an initial self-tape audition.
Australian Nationals (and other Tier 5 YMS)
Australian applicants have previously attended LSMT whilst in receipt of a Tier 5 YMS visa. This visa is restricted to those from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Monaco and Japan. Please be aware that although you will be able to study and work in the UK for the duration of your Tier 5 visa you will not be able to stay beyond its expiry, and are very unlikely to secure an extension. If you still wish to apply please contact firstname.lastname@example.org and you will be sent the relevant requirements to upload an initial self-taped audition. If you are already resident in the UK and your visa covers the duration of the course, please apply from your UK address using the online application form above.
Other Overseas Nationals
As a purely vocational course not within the HE framework, applicants to LSMT do not qualify for a Tier 4 Student Visa. We recommend looking at other courses administered by HE institutions who are able to sponsor Tier 4 applicants.
Attendance and Punctuality
All students are required to be available for the entire course. Absence from classes, other than for reasons of illness, is strictly by prior arrangement with the Principal and by completion of an authorised absence form, countersigned by two members of staff. LSMT reserves the right to dismiss any student from the course who has an unsatisfactory attendance record.
Students are expected to behave in a professional manner, whilst on the course. Any behaviour which brings LSMT into disrepute may result in the relevant student being dismissed from the course.
LSMT reserves the right to remove a student from the course should it appear that the required effort and progress is not being made. We are committed to supporting our students throughout their training, and encouraging them to achieve their goals. A decision to remove a student due to non-progression is a very rare occurrence and will only be actioned as a last resort, having given the student every opportunity to improve.
LSMT takes a deposit upon the acceptance of an offer to secure an individual’s place on the course. The deposit is non-refundable except under exceptional circumstances, such as for verified medical reasons or unexpected loss of funding. Under these circumstances, if the withdrawal is at least one month prior to the course commencement and we are able to fill the place from our reserve list, the deposit will be refunded.
Any student having to leave LSMT during training for verified health reasons, or due to dismissal, will be entitled to a refund of course fees, less the deposit and a proportion of fees equivalent to the training received.
It is strictly forbidden to partake in any professional theatrical production during training without the written consent of the Principal. Students should not attend auditions or seek to find employment during their training. During the final term, the Principal may allow certain students to accept employment or attend certain auditions.
LSMT welcomes applications from all members of the community, between the ages of 18 and 35, who meet the audition and performance criteria, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or disability.
Students will be asked to provide certain items for the course (such as suitable dance clothing). We endeavour to keep these requirements to a minimum.
Health, Safety and Student Welfare
LSMT has a health and safety policy. In addition, each student is responsible for his or her own physical well-being, with regard to diet and safe exercise. Advice will be given at the commencement of training.
LSMT carries full public and employer's liability insurance, at a level commensurate with activities undertaken.
Whilst every care is taken to ensure a secure training environment, LSMT accepts no responsibility for loss of, or damage to personal possessions. Every student is provided with a locker for the storage of their personal possessions, but high value items should not be brought to the school.
Students must be over 18 and under 35 before the commencement of the course.
Student Equity Status
LSMT encourages all students to join the Equity Student Membership scheme, which, apart from many additional benefits, allows the student to reserve the name they wish to use in their career, if that name has not already been registered.
Graduating students receive the LSMT vocational diploma in Musical Theatre, as an industry verification that they have completed our training.
London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT) is a registered charity (Number 1166152). All income received by the school is applied to the delivery of the objects of the charity, primarily 'the advancement of education and training in musical theatre performance' (articles of association). Charitable status offers the reassurance to our students that the school is non-profit distributing, is established for the public benefit and is overseen by appropriate trustee governance.
In the event of a circumstance deemed Force Majeure, the organisation is not obliged to deliver the services as outlined on this website. However, it is understood by the organisation and the enrolled student that although there is no legal obligation, every endeavour will be made by the organisation to deliver a training equating to that usually delivered.
Trade Mark Status
London School of Musical Theatre and LSMT are both registered Trade Marks, used under licence, exclusively by Theatrical Educational Services Limited.
